Ormonde Smith III

Ormonde Smith III (Kip) suffered a massive stroke on June 5, 2009, and passed away June 6, 2009.  He died peacefully and painlessly surrounded by his loving family.  Kip was born October 30, 1943, in Fort Wayne Indiana, and his family moved shortly afterwards to Houston, where he lived a full and rich life. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Charlotte, his parents Margaret and Ormonde Jr., his brother Thomas, sister Katharine (Kitty) Smith and husband Jeffrey Pritchard, brother Patrick, stepson Reid Dickson, and several nieces and nephews.  Kip graduated from the University of Houston, but his most meaningful educational experience was attending boarding school at the Darrow School in the Berkshire Mountains of New York.
The manner in which Kip carried out his life should be an example for all.  He was one of those people whose personal happiness was an extension of the joy he had in his heart and the genuine interest he showed in others.  He lived his life with enthusiasm, a twinkle in his eye, and love in his heart.  He left those who knew him with warm memories to cheer us and happiness to fill our hearts. All of this, bundled into his beautiful spirit, will last forever.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions can be made in his honor to Darrow School, 110 Darrow Rd., New Lebanon, NY 12125.
