Kip 1982

When Kip and Charlotte met, she lived in New Orleans, and Kip commuted to the Big Easy for most of his social life. This was taken at Mardi Gras, 1982. Kip, dressed as Roy Orbison, chose this occasion to propose to Charlotte (aka Dolly Parton). And she said yes anyway!

Wedding

The wedding took place in New Orleans on June 26, 1982. Here, Kip, Charlotte and her son, Reid, at the wedding.

In this shot, Kip is holding the wedding certificate, which has just been signed—it’s official! Lang looks like he wants to check the document.

1983

Here they are again, now an old married couple, at Mardis Gras 1983.

kip and Steve

This photo shows Kip with his friend, Steve St. Germain, at a party for their 40th birthdays. The inflated lady in the background (the one with “Happy 40th Kip” on her tummy) was one of his favorite birthday presents ever.

This was Kip’s 50th birthday party. Someone—I think Charlotte said it was his parents’ idea—suggested that everyone come in costume as Kip, so they blew up a photo and made masks for all the guests. The guy in the middle (without a mask) seems to be enjoying it immensely. He’s brought along an airhead from his 40th birthday, all dressed up for this party.
